A whole different world from the expensive London!

If no one can give you some solid names, this is what I would do. Go on google and type in “London art schools” and/or “London photography schools.” There should be websites with lists of schools and websites for the actual schools. Once you get to the school website look at their degree programs and see if they have photography as some of them. Now if you’re only looking to further your photography skills, and not major in it, just google “London photography classes” and some good answers should come up. And if you’re still not happy, here is one of the best sources. Go out and find some photography studios in London, and ask the photographers if they know of any schools or classes and which they think are best. Ask what school they went to and why. Most of them should be happy to help.

I’m applying for Photography BA’s to start in September and have done a fair amount of research on the most prestigious Photography courses around London and on the south coast. I think it’s a little too late to apply for courses starting in 2009 but the following Universities have great reputations for Photography: Westminster (in Harrow) offers a Photographic Arts course. I recently attended an interview at this institution and was really impressed with the facilities and teaching methods. They claim to put equal emphasis on theory as they do practical, so you should expect to write a fair few essays over the 3 years. The benefit of this is that it offers more opportunities to graduates looking for jobs in the arts. Apparently half the students that gaduate go into working as photographers and half go on to positions such as picture editors, curators, critics etc. University of Creative Arts also has a respected photography course.
