Which types of food does it take to grow mold?
Easiest foods to grow visible mold (almost pure culture w/o concomitant bacterial growth which can spoil the food quicker than the mold) are: 1. lemons – they are very acidic, which does not invite bacteria and frequently contaminated with spores (which is matter of luck). With good luck (if you buy lemons in some seedier store and also choose bigger varieties) your lemons will be covered in mold in 4-5 days 2. bread – need to choose “natural” organic variety, choose several to improve your luck – it will not contain preservatives and will be more susceptible to mold; rye or caramelized (very black) bread is better; With bread (depending on variety) you may have mold as soon as couple of days or as long as months (average 2-3 weeks – my estimate) 3. berries preserves that do not contain lots of starch and preservatives – open them, dilute a little with water and put in the fridge – in about 1-2 weeks Another idea – go to the big store like Costco or Sams club where they have a lot of c
