Which type of RNA makes peptide bonds between amino acids?
rRNA forms peptide bonds between amino acids. Anyone who studies the ribosome will tell you, “The ribosome is a ribozyme!” That means the RNA of the ribosome, the rRNA, is what catalyzes peptide bond formation. A simplified description of translation: the codons on mRNA are what specify the amino acids. tRNA with bound amino acid comes into the ribosome and base pairs with mRNA if it has the correct anticodon, or is ejected if not. Once the correct tRNA base pairs with the mRNA, it is moved further into the ribosome which positions the amino acid so that rRNA can catalyze peptide bond formation.
