Which type of pool – liner, fibreglass, gunite??
Mine right now is liner Pluses: Don’t have to paint it (pool paint is $$$$), Can easily change look of the pool Minuses: Have to be careful with cleaning tools, dogs, etc. not to tear liner, Vinyl is very sensetive to chemical balance, if you don’t monitor your chemicals properly you can reduce life up to 50% because the liner will shrink or become brittle due to improper balance. I have a new liner for my pool sitting waiting to be installed, it was around $900 for a 16×32 diving pool, cost around $550 to put it in. I figure that cost every 10-15 years is not bad, equals out to ~$100 a year. My grandfather had a fiberglass pool, it lasted 25+ years when he took it out it was still in ok shape-the top was faded and it has some bubbling in the gelcoat-biggest negative is here in La the water table is high and you have to be careful draining a fiberglass pool as the groundwater can come up and push it out of the ground or crack it, there are some things you can install to prevent this in
