Which Type Of Fluorescent Fixtures And Fluorescent Replacement Bulbs Will Be Good For Hydroponics Growing?
There are special bulbs made for this purpose which give off a broad spectrum. However they can be fairly expensive and even though they call them “full spectrum” they really aren’t. An alternative is to use two different types of fluorescents. You may have noticed that some fluorescent bulbs which give off white light have a sort of blueish tinge to them, and some have a reddish tinge. Each gives off a portion of the spectrums which plants need but are not enough all by themselves. Using a combination of both works pretty well. Sylvania Cool White Plus are good for giving the bluish portion of the spectrum. I cannot recall any particular models of redish bulbs, but they are not difficult to find. With all fluorescents, there is pretty low light intensity, so they need to be kept within about 2 to 10 inches of the tops of the plants for best results.
