Which two players had the best half back partnership in rugby union history?
May not be many following this who are old enough to remember (and most here are SH supporters), but “in rugby union history”, one would certainly need to remember Gareth Edwards and Barry John for Wales in the early 1970s. Their partnership was really very extraordinary. I actually like the question very much because of the emphasis on “partnership”, rather than saying “who were the best half-back and 1st 5” – comparisons of absolute ability across eras are pretty hard to justify and, as time-traveling, always going to be subjective.
