It is the barrier sea beaches. Because of the barrier the small rises in the sea level are barred from reaching the seashore and the waves do not damage the beach. But once the thresh hold of the barrier is crossed and sea water rushes in it can not go back and stays there for a longer time and causes more damage to the beach.
