Which synths can I use with the Casio DH series?
The Casio DH series send Channel Aftertouch data out its MIDI OUT jack in response to the player’s breath pressure. Most wind controllers use the more standard breath controller data (MIDI controller #2) for this purpose. In order to use the Casio DH with a synth you would need to program the patches in the receiving synth to respond to Aftertouch data. The most useful destinations would be filter cutoff and overall amplitude/volume. With the exception of a few Korg soundbanks that have been set up to respond directly to Aftertouch data, most of the Patchman Music wind controller soundbanks have been programmed for use with MIDI breath controller data. To use the Casio with patches set to respond to breath controller data you would need to map the Casio’s Aftertouch data to breath controller data (MIDI controller #2). Products such as the Midi Solutions Event Processor can do this. The out of production Anatek Pocket Mapper may also be able to do this- this is unconfirmed. Many MIDI se
The Casio DH series send Channel Aftertouch data out its MIDI OUT jack in response to the player’s breath pressure. Most wind controllers use the more standard breath controller data (MIDI continuous controller #2) for this purpose. In order to use the Casio DH digital horn with a synth, you would need to program the patches in the receiving synth to respond to Aftertouch data in some desired way. The most useful destinations would be filter cutoff and overall amplitude/volume. With the exception of a few Korg soundbanks that have been set up to respond directly to Aftertouch data, most of the Patchman Music wind controller soundbanks have been programmed for use with MIDI breath controller data. But it is possible to use the Casio with patches set to respond to breath controller data if you use a Midi mapper device to map the Casio’s Aftertouch data to breath controller data (MIDI controller #2). Products such as the Midi Solutions Event Processor box can be programmed to do this. Pat
