Which styles of drama are there?
There are a lot of interpretations of what a drama style can be. Whether it’s a time period or cultural difference, dramas come in countless varieties. Dramas essentially take on a high emotional state for the characters/players and are meant to evoke strong reactions of sadness, anger, or joy from the audience, sometimes with a mix of humor. Dramas need to at the foundation be emotionally stimulating and at times tense to the viewer and characters.
The basic drama styles are blends of different dramas:
- Comedic Drama
- Satiric Drama
- Romantic Drama
- Surreal Drama
- and many others
Comedic dramas are dramas that offer a light humor to flavor a serious subject that is essentially dramatic in form.
Satiric dramas can be allegories for a bigger idea/concept that is being satirized by the playwright or screenwriter.
Romantic dramas are essentially soap operas.
Surreal dramas might also present some allegory, but in a tone that is above and beyond reality and might even make unrealistic conclusions and actions for the characters in an unrealistic world.
