A freeze shaft is a cylindrical system (see Fig. 1) with inner radius a and outer radius b, thus the wall thickness is d = b – a. The freeze shaft in this state as thick-walled cylinder is stressed on his outside periphery by a depth dependent pressure p = pw + pe consisting of water plus horizontal earth pressure.
