Currently, 26 states and jurisdictions have enacted legislation that legally recognizes the interior design profession and several other states are in the process of considering such legislation. Interior design is one profession, regardless of specialty. So, yes, both residential and commercial designers are affected. That being said, each state makes the decision about what types of projects require licensed practitioners. Some states do not require licensed professionals for residential design of any kind.
