Which state is affected by Melting snow heavy flooding?
Usually it is different locations that flood. The difference with this flooding experience is the onslaught of unusally high snowfall in the area. This combined with huge ( and I mean HUGE) amounts of rainfall up to 6 inches in a few hours and this has saturated the ground, when the rain ( which is heavier than the snow) goes to the bottom of the snow pack, this causes the snow to flow downhill and in turn, this equals mudslides and amazing destruction. There was one about a mile from here, and of courrse I had to go see it! AMAZING, huge trees split in half on the descent, took out small trees, large trees and chunks of a mountain side, noone was hurt but what a mess! In Southern Washington State the flooding is uncommon but due to a recent flood ( a few years ago) and that washed away any underlying strong soil to hold any future flooding issues.
