Which specific birds usually migrate in the winter time and which ones do not?
It all depends in which country that you live. In the U.K.We have quite a number of migrants that breed here in the Spring/Summer. They then leave our shores for warmer climes, the main reason for this is Food and warmth, Swallows, Martins, Swifts,Warblers of Various species, even some Hawks such as Merlin ,Hobbie.Terns of various species.(they travel to the Ant Arctic regions) On the whole it is the Insect feeders that leave our shores, There are our own residents such as the Goldfinch,Black cap,Wrens and birds of the T*T,family that will move south from our northern regions, because it is a shade warmer. We also get birds from the Continent and the Polar region, like Geese Wax wing ,Field fare and Red wing to name a few. The main ones to brave our climate and stay all year round are Thrush,Blackbird,Sparrow.Green finch, once again, just a few to mention. But it all depends on which hemisphere you live in and the bird species that live there.
