Which sod is best for high traffic areas?
A.) Fescue tends to be a little more tolerant of high traffic conditions, because of the wider blade and bunch grass characteristics, but because they are a bunch grass, they do not have the ability to repair themselves if major damage does occur. Kentucky bluegrass on the other hand does repair itself because of the ability to produce rhizomes that it has. RTF is the only fescue type grass that does have the ability to repair itself even though it is not as aggressive in its production of rhizomes as Kentucky bluegrass is. Turf Type tall fescue does have the added benefit of not creeping into flower beds as aggressively as Kentucky bluegrass.
