To answer the question, during the 1960s, second wave feminism once again brought gender equality into the social conscious. In the 1950s, many housewifes felt inadaquate with their household role (as if to say, is baking bread and looking after kids all thats going to happen in my life) and there was growing support for feminism – as mothers who realised they wasted their life in the home didn’t want the same for their children (and remember, this was the start of the baby boom), and they wanted their children to get an education. Liberal feminists sought to bring about equality through an existing framework, unlike marxist/socialist/radical feminists who thought a whole change of system was in order.
