Which should be accepted a universal language, French or English.?
I say neither. I like the idea of a language that’s very easy for everyone to learn. That way, its native speakers won’t have a big advantage over everyone else. Interlingua was actually prepared and standardized to be as easy as possible for as many people as possible. Castellina’s respondents learned Interlingua well enough to write texts in it in literally six days. The average is closer to 15 days for English speakers, but that’s still very fast. A side benefit of Interlingua is that it makes other languages, including English and French, easier to learn. According to Gopsill, you can learn Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, any Romance language in about half the time. It works with other languages as well. So people who choose to speak English or French still can. In fact, it will be even easier.
