Which scientists had theories about light which contradicted sir isaac newtons?
No-one has contradicted Newton’s theory that light is made up of many colours. It is a scientific fact. Newton assumed that light was made of particles. He reasoned that if light travels in a straight line it must be made of particles because they are the only thing that travels in a straight line. Christian Huygens and Augustin-Jean Fresnel almost immediately explained the prism splitting the light by describing it as a wave and how it slows down when travelling through a medium. This was then disproved experimentally in 1803 by Thomas Young’s “Double Slit” experiment where he showed that light behaved like a wave by diffracting and produced interference patterns.
