Which Regiment is the best to join in the British Army?
Depends on what you’re looking for. If it’s an army career that will also give you some kind of trade training then REME or Royal Signals perhaps. If you’re more interested in joining an infantry unit then the Parachute Regiment is at the top of the tree in the army, unless you’re looking at ceremonial duties. The Royal Navy and Royal Air Force have their own elite forces in the shape of the Royal Marines and 2 Sqn RAF Regiment and these are on a par with the Paras though each has different roles and you can guarantee that members of each will gripe on about why they’re the best. It’s a bit like sibling rivalry: They’ll fight like cats and dogs but if someone else picks a fight they’ll all muscle in on the same side.
Well I presume you’re not including SF in that, otherwise the obvious answer would be the SAS. Parachute Regiment and the Gurkha’s stand out above the rest. The Coldstream Guards have a lot of history, The Tigers (Princess of Wale’s Royal Regiment) also have a long standing history and have proved themselves in almost every war since the 1600s. They are also the most decorated British Army Regiment.
My only experience of the British Army is serving as boy and man with the Royal Signals from 1957-1965 (16 to 24). So, my advice young man is that you join the Royal Signals and get in on the cutting edge of future technology. http://www.army.mod.uk/signals/signals.a… I was born in Birmingham in 1941 – sorry to say it was being bombed rather too much at the time. I ended up in Kent then moved to London after my Army service.
