Which program is best for making mosaics of JPG files?
Mosaics include “panoramas” made from overlapping, images that might also require rescaling and rotating. There are many programs that will make mosaics of most types of image files. The problem is that in general JPG files that have been modified are typically recompressed which a resulting further loss of information. I’m looking for programs that don’t recompress the parts of the original images that were not rotated or merged with overlapping images. Saving in a lossless format doesn’t count – I want the saved image to be a JPG. In the special case of a tilings (abutted images with no rotation, no overlapping, or no rescaling), there should be no information loss even if different compression methods were used for each image file and the output file size should be the sum of the input file sizes.
