With that pick the Phillies selected a high school player named Kelly Dugan. Dugan played for Sherman Oaks, California’s Notre Dame High School and is set to go to Pepperdine University. We will see if the Phillies can persuade him to sign with them instead. They think he will sign before the August 15th deadline. Dugan, a 6-3 205 pounder, hit .379 with 8 homeruns in his senior year at Notre Dame. He is a switch hitter who has power from both sides of the plate and is projected as a corner outfielder. Dugan apparently had a supporter in an ex-Notre Dame student, Pat Gillick, the former general manager of the Phillies who is serving as an advisor to the team.
