Which products are tested on animals?
Most ingredients in cosmetics have been tested on animals at some point, this was banned in Britain in 1998, but only on testing within Britain, companies can still sell products here which have been tested on animals abroad. The current definitions of cruelty free are as follows; There are 2 main cruelty free policies; one is the 5yr rolling rule, which means that a company will only use and ingredient which was tested no less than 5yrs ago on animals. The other is the Fixed Cut Off Date Rule (FCOD), which means that a company will not use any ingredients tested on animals after a certain date. It is definitely worth checking around a few sources first to find reputable cruelty free brands, as most companies operating within the EU now realise that EU consumers prefer cruelty free, so some “bend” the rules a little or can be a little misleading on advertising etc. Ones recommended as suitable for vegans (so which have the most stringent controls) include: Animal Aid Care For Life Caur
