Which privileges do I need to have to use the PCI Pamette board?
Most of the standard tasks can be done by simple users. However, you need to have special privileges to perform certain actions like installing new software, upgrading the firmware, changing the serial number, setting up a DMA… On a Unix system, you need to be super-user (root) to perform these actions. On Windows NT, you will need to have two special privileges: the Memory Locking privilege to lock memory (for DMAs) and the Driver Loading privilege for all the other privileged operations. Note that the first privilege is not granted to anyone by default, whereas all the administrators have the second one by default. In order to grant/revoke privileges for specific users, go to the User Manager, in Policies/User Rights; check the “Show Advanced User Rights” mark, choose your privilege and manage the list of users associated to it.
