Which porch railings are better aluminum or wrought iron and why?
Both are strong and easy to maintain. Each has a different “look” so you will want to consider what the architectural style of your building is. Wrought iron can give a period look to a porch. Depending on its design it can give a French look, a colonial look, a British or Georgian look, or even a Mexican look. It can be elaborately curved or simple and straight. With the right coat of paint it will resist rusting. It is heavy so weight is a consideration. However, it is very strong though sometimes it can break. If that happens you need to replace the section as you cannot weld cast iron. If you have a unique pattern it may be impossile to match. Aluminum is lightweight but also strong. It lends itself to a clean, modern look on a porch. It can be painted but doesn’t need to be because it doesn’t corrode easily.
