• If you are an accounting major or took several accounting courses in your undergrad program, you might meet special 120-hour eligibility rules that allow you to take the exam as you work on your 150 hours of education. • If you didn’t take very much accounting in your undergrad program, you may not be eligible (or have the knowledge) to take the exam until after you complete your 150 hours (5th year) of education. • If you need work experience, it can be completed at any time. For example, you take the exam, then finish your education, and then gain your work experience. Or you can complete your work experience as you take your last courses and/or pass the last sections of your exam. • Many CPA firms require you to complete your education before starting employment. • Some employers will allow you to start your job while you finish your education and/or take the CPA exam. Keep in mind that you must complete the 150 hours within 3 years after you pass the exam.
