Which perennial flowers and shrubs are best for attracting bees and butterflies?
You have a good start. The all-time favorite butterfly plant in my garden was, surprisingly, oregano. I used to be utterly amazed by the sight of hundreds of Monarch butterflies clinging to my oregano plants at midday out in the herb garden. They also love: Lilacs (Syringa Vulgaris) Thyme Sage (Salvia species and hybrids) Rosemary (Rosmarinus) Hesperis Matronalis (Dame’s or Sweet Rocket) Silene species and hybrids Saponaria Officinalis (Bouncing Bet or Soapwort) Penstemon species and hybrids Asclepias species (butterfly weed) Malus (apple trees) Clover (Trifolium) Lonicera (Honeysuckle) Monarda (Bee Balm) Stachys species, such as S. Lanata (lamb’s ear) Melissa (Lemon Balm) Agastache (Anise Hyssop) Coreopsis species Chrysanthemum Maximum (Shasta Daisy); also ox-eye daisies Cosmos Gaillardia Rudbeckia (Black-eyed Susan) I used to find Tiger Swallowtails thoroughly enjoying a particular large purple Rhododendron hybrid. They never went to any Rhododendron except this one. Nepeta (catmint)
