What I am finding in reading Yahoo questions and their answers is that most people don’t seem to understand what marketing really is. I think that most people, when they think of marketing, think of either sales or advertising. What marketing really entails is absolutely anything involved from the time a product idea is conceived, to the time it’s on the shelves. Then along with this, the product has to be managed once it’s on the shelves. Of course, there has to be advertising, and there has to be someone to sell the product. But what happens when someone comes up with an idea? Someone has to figure out whether or not the idea has viability. And if the company decides the new product idea has viability, someone else has to figure out how it’s going to be placed in the market. Meaning, someone has to decide how it wants the public to preceive this product. Then after this, there is the product itself. What’s it going to look like, how is it going to be packaged?
