Aug. 14–To get to the next level, 2009 Shaw High graduate Cortez Reeves took a step back. When no college offers came in for former Raiders defensive lineman, he developed a new way to stay focused on his training regiment — going back to his beginnings. “I had a lot of success playing at Rothschild Middle School and I remember that experience,” Reeves said. “I’d go to Gold’s Gym every day and then I’d go to Rothschild and run stairs. It was like getting back to my roots, where I started.” On Aug. 2, Reeves’ work paid off when he signed a letter of intent to play for Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. The school, the back-to-back Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion, offered him a full ride, he said, and he has been at camp doing two-a-days since.
