Which one to get? A Ceramic braces or a Lingual braces and WHY?
It is much harder to take care of lingual braces than ceramic braces. While many of the lingual brackets have improved and don’t cut up the tongue as much, there is a lot less working area on the lingual surface of the tooth than the labial /buccal surface. Most of your lingual surface is covered in braces, you can’t see it to try to clean it better, and calculus builds up on the teeth a lot faster and food stays stuck in them. I went to a course on lingual orthodontics last year, and the professor recommended cleaning the teeth, at least with a cavitron, at every wire adjustment. That means having your teeth cleaned every month. While the course was very enlightening, it certainly made it clear which technique I would recommend. Honestly, I would only recommend lingual braces if you are a model and don’t have to speak publicly (that’s more difficult too).
