Which one of Noahs sons are the Scottish people descended from?
Noah had three sons – Shem, Ham and Japheth. Shem’s descendents, the Semites, included the Israelites (through Abraham). 26 nations came from Shem. The Japhethites lived to the north and west of Palestine in Eurasia. 14 nations came from Japheth. The Hamites were located in south-western Asia and in north-east Africa. 30 nations came from Ham. It is not possible to say from which of Noah’s sons Scottish people descended because, according to Genesis chapter 11, verse 8, all the people were scattered throughout the earth after God confused the language spoken at the time of the tower of Babel. Whatever the origins of Scottish people, they acknowledge that “we’re all Jock Tamson’s bairns” – we all come out of the same melting pot and none of us are any better than anyone else. I should know – I’m Scottish!
