Which one is better, digital offset or litho offset printing?
Actually, both digital offset and Litho offset are not a good fit for this assignment since they both will require press set up. (running multiple prints while the press gets adjusted) Pure digital presses, sometimes referred to as “Indigo” printing, show a decided dot pattern and have a slightly waxy look to the finished product. Digital presses cannot get as small a dot pattern as the more expensive Litho cousins. Digital prints usually cant go much larger then 11×17 inches. Regular litho can usually go to 36×42 on some of the larger presses. Digital presses are only cost effective for quantities up to around 500. Above 500 regular litho costs less. For one-off print projects, pure digital stochastic printing (like a giant ink-jet) is usually done. The high quality prints are called GicleĆ© printing and print so smooth that they look like continuous tone with no visible dots.
