I know everyone said this already but what the heck.Beethoven did overcome a great obstacle as he was deaf and his output as a composer was amazing. Rachmaninoff comes into my mind too.He had writer’s block and suffered from depression because of his failure of his first symphony. He recovered quickly however and the result was the Piano Concerto No.2 I think Alkan deserves a say in this too.His masterpieces have only been revived after a century! That was a really long time of neglect and his compositions are rather technically challenging but yet have a powerful side to them.He can be musical too as shown by his Nocturnes but most performers degrade his compositions as unplayable. He should be as well known as Liszt but did not come to light until now!
