Voluntown woman has a knack for perfect matches Voluntown, Conn. — A Voluntown woman who donated her kidney to her fiancé will be featured tonight on TLC’s program “Say Yes to the Dress,” which follows brides-to-be looking for the perfect wedding dress at Kleinfeld bridal salon in Manhattan. Heidi Helms, 29, donated her kidney to Nathan Lazourack, 32, last fall after he was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease that hardened the filtering tubes in his kidneys. Doctors had to take out both his kidneys and put him on dialysis while he awaited transplant. Helms went into Yale New Haven Medical Center last spring to be tested and see if she was a match. “I told him, ‘I’m going to be able to do it. I just know it,’ ” she said. She was right. The surgery was done Sept. 18, a Thursday; she was home by Saturday. He was home the following Monday, and has had no medical problems since, she said. “He’s been doing so well,” she said.
