Kuaima Riruako “…Riruako was born in Aminuis in the Omaheke Region, and he has been Paramount Chief of the Herero since 1978, albeit without official recognition from the Government. Riruako has led an effort to receive compensation from the Government of Germany for the Herero massacre between 1904 and 1907 in the same manner that Jews have received compensation for the holocaust. Germany has continued to rule this out, but he has won a formal apology from the German government. Riruako was a member of the Constitutional Council from 1986 to 1987 and was first elected to the National Assembly of Namibia as a candidate of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) in 1994. In September 2003, NUDO withdrew from the DTA, with Riruako accusing the DTA of failing to work for Herero interests; Riruako became president of NUDO, as an independent party on September 18, 2003, and he resigned from the National Assembly in the same month. He was subsequently elected as a NUDO candidate in the Nov
