Which name is Taffy the Welsh nickname for?

I don’t know if you are American but the question and answer are both mis-aimed… The Taff is a river and a valley in South Wales, there is also an area called Rhondda Cynon Taf which has meant that most English people will call any Welshman (or woman) Taf or Taffy either affectionately or as an insult. One of my colleagues (I now live in England) is also Welsh and he has come to E and commonly started calling himself Taf! His real name is Colin. I suppose if I was called Colin I’d change it to Taffy too. It has not come about as a nickname for Dafydds. There was a little song a long time ago (my Granddad used to sing it) “Taffy was a welshman Taffy was a thief” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taffy_was_a_Welshman Needless to say he was English! Btw most English people don’t know what “Taffy” the candy is – I only heard of it from Friends!
