Which mobile phone technology is better for hearing aid wearers?
A. No single mobile phone technology is always the best for everyone. The various digital mobile phone technologies in Australia – GSM, CDMA, and 3G – all work differently. (Note the 3G system will eventually replace the current CDMA service.) Operating using different radio frequencies and modulation schemes, these air interfaces represent different ways the mobile phone communicates to the mobile phone base station tower. The potential for interference exists regardless of the manufacturer of the phone, provider of mobile phone service, or manufacturer of the hearing aid. However, research shows that there are some hearing aid wearers that experience excellent performance and have no problem with any of the digital technologies.
