Microsoft does make an equation editor but it is a bit tricky to use and it doesnt diagram geometric shapes. If you dont want to spend time struggling with its interface you might just use the drawing tools in Word or Excel. I would actually suggest a programming environment like Flash because it allows exact dimensioning and you can add notes and drawings easily.
