McDonald’s kicks off value menu blitz The hamburger giant takes on value-leader Taco Bell in Southern California with 59-cent menu offerings LOS ANGELES — In the first phase of a national plunge into the “value” fray, McDonald’s has launched a nine-item “Low Down Menu,” featuring 59-cent prices in its 360-restaurant Southern California market. Introduced at participating outlets late last month, the menu mimics Taco Bell’s trend-setting value strategy by featuring that chain’s signature 59-cent price on regular McDonald’s burgers, french fries, sausage biscuits, a new breakfast burrito and soft drinks. The menu also offers a 69-cent cheeseburger, a 79-cent breakfast burrito with cheese, a $1.29 double cheeseburger and larger soft drinks for 69, 79 and 99 cents. Coffee is priced at 39 and 59 cents. In addition, the chain’s Happy Meal kids combo has been lowered to $1.99, the same price featured in a summer-long promotion last year. McDonald’s is advertising its slashed prices using the
