Which medium is better, smart media or compact flash?
It’s a very good question but you are only asking part of it since there are curently SIX main standards competing. Capacities are determined by the amount of MBs (megabytes) of storage. A 64MB card is four times the capacity of the 16MB card, or is it? Yes, it is… but the actual capacity is determined by that factor plus the “sampling rate” being used. i.e. The lower the quality of the sample rate the more time capacity you will have in ANY given format. Don’t get confused since this technology now gives the end user far more capacity then they should ever need… especially for standard music-on-hold applications. It wasn’t that long ago when a 4-minute machine (without a production) was well over $400 and COULD NOT be upgraded. If you wanted an 8-minute machine then a whole new purchase was necessary and for significantly more money ($600-$700). So don’t get tangled up in the minutia of bits and bytes but concentrate instead on investing your time and money into a solid CUSTOMIZED
