If you are using an evaporative cooler, the air exiting the cooler will have a very high humidity. It can in some cases approach 100% relative humidity. The only way to remove sufficient moisture from this air to reduce the humidity level to the comfort zone (35 to 40%) is by mechanical refrigeration. If you are going to do that, you might as well have a conventional air conditioning unit. Any material like silica gel will quickly become saturated and need to be regenerated. This method is just not economic or practical. In theory you could use something like calcium chloride but you would have to buy it by the truck load and then you have a disposal problem with the residue.
