Which martial art do police learn more; Aikido or Judo?
Law Enforcement Officers do not learn traditional Martial Arts. The function of Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics is to control the subject while doing as little damage to the person as possible. We practice joint locks and pressure points to achieve ‘pain compliance’. We train in decentralization techniques to take a combative subject from their feet to the ground, or stabilize them up against a wall. We train focused strikes to create dysfunction of a combatant’s organic weapons (arms and legs) and incapacitate a combatant. The individual techniques we use come from wrestling, jui-jistsu and karate, but we do not teach any of the systems in our training curriculum. We do not train to fight or hurt people, we train to end encounters (peacefully if possible) and preserve order.
