Which Laptop, a top Spec Windows PC or an Apple Mac?
I know that both Dell and Apple offer special student discounts (I’m in the same boat as you). I’d check both of those if you want to search for the best price. Apple’s discounts aren’t much, but every little bit helps. I thought about a Mac, but I’ve decided that the PC is a better value for me. You could always look to see if there are refurbished laptops out there.
I just went all out on the Dell Studio XPS 1645 with a i7 Quad, SSD, and every other feature you could possibly imagine. The total came to around $2500 which was the cheapest I could find for a computer spec’d as such. Let me tell you, IT IS FAST! I can literally run every program I have installed (including MW2 and FSX) and experience absolutely NO lag and only use 65% of the processor. I compared it to a mac of equal price and almost threw up. Macs are very well built but they really are not made for speed and gaming. They will last more than 5 years but who wants a 5 year old laptop that crashes every day? Definitely go with Windows/PC. I recommend a quad core i7@1.6 GHz (or Core i5 dual core 540m) and 4GB+ of DDR3 RAM.
