Which is the oldest religion in world?
Most reference books list Hinduism as the oldest world religion. This is probably because Hinduism has the oldest recorded roots, which lie in Dravidianism. Dravidianism is estimated to have been practiced around 6,000 to 3,000 BCE and as such predates the Sumerian, Egyptian, and Babylonian cultures.
Hinduism It is the world’s oldest extant religion. It has no known founder, although many scholars assume its foundations derives from within the Vedic Civilization. This suggests a distinct antiquity to the religion as the Vedic period or age extends from approximately the 2nd millenium BCE and continues up until the 6th Century BCE. While Judaism can be said to have Abraham as its founding father (circa 2000 BCE), and the first five books of the Old Testament written around 600 BCE, Hinduism’s roots, and that of the Vedic Civiliztation go much further back. Both Hinduism and the associated culture on the Indian subcontinent derive ultimately from the Indus Valley Civilization (circa 3300 BCE), the latter which includes the impressive city, Mohenjo-daro, built roughly 2600 BCE. Instead of looking for a particular religion, you can consider religion itself as a continuous and expanding system of knowledge, that a series of universal educators have appeared throughout history to educate humanity by gradually deeper explanations of what it means to be human and what our relationship is to the source of all being, that these universal educators have appeared about every 500 to 1000 years, and that humanity has never been without this guidance, that all are from the same source, and all serve the same purpose and function, and all teach, like chapters in a book, like teachers in a school, knowledge that humanity needs to advance and prosper. There is one religion, continuous and progressively revealed, eternal in the past, eternal in the future.
