Which is the native or birth place of the famous violinist Jascha Heifetz?
The last century offered numerous outstanding personalities for the history of music interpretation. One of such personalities is unique violinist Jascha Heifetz (1901-1987) from the old capital of Lithuania – Vilnius. Jascha was born on February 2, 1901, in the family of a self-educated violinist. His father gave him the first lessons of violin when Jascha was three years old. At the age of four the boy started attending a music school (such information can be found on the memorial board on the house no. 25 in Vilnius Street) and performed solo during the concerts of the pupils of the music school since he was six. According to the testimony of Prof. Saulius Sondeckis, the family lived in the old town, in the house no. 27, in the current Maironis Street. Thus, the future violin virtuoso was surrounded by a magic atmosphere of Vilnius – mysterious and winding old town streets echoing with various languages, and at the same time, the green slopes of a rapid Vilnelė river.
