Which is the narrowest monospace font on Windows?
Monospace font characters are all set at a standard width amongst themselves, but the physical display width of the characters depends on the size the font is displayed at and the proportions of the font within its em square. To give a concrete example, in an HTML pre element where a monospace font is set at a CSS font-size of 1em, all its characters should be the same width. If the monospace font happens to be Courier New, its character width will be different from the same text in the Monaco font. Amongst the most common Windows monospace fonts the Consolas font is the narrowest, but you should include a number of similar fallback fonts for other operating systems too.
