Right now China is relying on a hybrid variety of rice at the expense of the loss of their traditional rices because the government of China is demanding that the farmers purchase the hybrid rice which seed cannot be saved from hybrids and this forces the farmers to buy new seed from the government every year. the hybrid rice does give the farmers a higher yeild than than the traditional rices, but we already know a one size fits all solution rarely works for all.
