As everyone has said Mt Everest is a mountain and the Himalayas are a mountain chain but did you know that Everest is not the biggest mountain in the world. It all depends on how you measure height. The highest GEOGRAPHIC point on earth due to the shape of the earth is the summit of Mt Kilamanjaro in Africa. A beach on the equator is geographicaly higher than Everest. If you measure a mountain from bottom to top and not from sea level to top the tallest mountain in the world is Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is the single most massive object on earth and if measured from its base to summit it is over 32,000 ft high which is a good 3000 ft taller than Everest. People dont call it the biggest mountain though because 20,000ft of it is under the Pacific Ocean and only 12,000 feet is above sea level. Now there is a bit of pub trivia for you.
