The east coast is a sliver of land that is the most inhabitable in this desert nation/continent. However there is one major river supplying water for most of that coast: The Murray. By the time it empties into the sea in Adelaide, it is generally muddy and shallow and yucky. So although that is the area where my husband comes from and where we have many wonderful friends, it is not a good area if you want water! Almost all the houses there have rain barrels to catch what rain they can for their own personal use, such as drinking water. But travel up north, from Brisbane north, and you have gorgeous land and even though Australia is going through a major and severe drought right now, there is more water available in the north than in the south. The far north is more tropical, but that includes the crocs and mozzies (mosquitoes) and more poisonous spiders and snakes and such…. So my choice would be about an hour north of Brisbane, I think.
