which is Nintendo President No Price Cut for Wii Have Gifts Instead?
According to an article released by Associated Press, Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata has maintained his stance that there will be no Wii price drops in the foreseeable future. “We’re still focusing on how to meet booming demand,” Iwata stated. “We’re absolutely not considering a price cut.” According to Iwata, Nintendo is currently shipping 1.8 million Wii consoles per month. He also expects demand to outstrip supply over the Christmas period. On a more interesting note however, Iwata revealed that Nintendo is planning on integrating a new function into the Wii Shop channel that will allow players to send games to each other as gifts. According to Iwata, once a recipient accepts the download, their Wii console will launch the Wii Shop channel and begin downloading immediately. “We think this will be a breakthrough in encouraging customers to spread news of fun games [through] word of mouth,” Iwata said. “We also hope to spur more users to connect their Wiis to the Internet,” he said.
