Which is most popular in the design industry – Adobe Indesign or QuarkXpress?
I don’t think there’s any way of really knowing. In general it’s more often it a corporate decision, and not a personal one. When I worked on the publishing side, especially large catalogs, Quark was king. When I moved into creative agencies, InDesign was the hero. I personally find my workflow is faster in InDesign than in Quark, but I have to admit Quark 7 was a very impressive upgrade. If you compare features, each one has their own minor advantages, but overall its awash. So again, I see a lot of design agencies, consumer publishers, and more creative companies preferring InDesign, and with its excellent typography controls and Illustrator-quality vector tools, I’m not surprised. Quark on the other hand has remained popular as a workhorse, particularly with newspaper publishing and catalogs.
