German is studied more than Italian. As far as popular as how many speakers there are about 1 and a half million German speakers in US as opposed to about 1 million Italian speakers. It is true Italian will come much easier to you from your experience with Romance languages. But since you clearly know English, that will help you with German. The grammar is more complicated and can be hard at first – there is a lot to learn and you really have to keep up with it because more grammar just keeps coming at you – -but German is much more phonetic than English or French and there are many similarities with English words.
